General Election Hustings

Tonight was the first public hustings of the election campaign with a focus on the NHS. Here’s my opening speech on why the NHS is so important to me and why I believe that supporting NHS staff is the most important issue right now for our NHS.

Hustings are a good way to hear from all your candidates so do come along if you can.

Upcoming hustings are:

  • Monday 25th at 7.30pm, The Royal in Hayfield
  • Wednesday 27th at 7.30pm, New Mills Town Hall
  • Thursday 28th 6.45pm at Glossopdale School (ticket only, via the Glossop Chronicle page)
  • Wednesday 4th 7pm at Buxton URC – Amnesty and Transition Buxton
  • Hope Valley date TBC

Ruth George, Labour's Champion for High Peak

“There has never been such a huge difference between the political parties and the future they offer. I want people in High Peak to know that there is a better alternative than a government which is about to close nearly 20 hospitals, cut £3 billion from our schools, plunge over 4 million working families into poverty through their harsh cuts to Universal Credit and refuses to rule out cuts to pension increases or higher tax and national insurance. In contrast, I will promote Labour’s message of long-term investment in public services, fairness for working people, and decent support for pensioners and those who cannot work.”
