letter to robert largan

My Conservative opponent has repeatedly asserted that I have made Antisemitic statements in spite of being unable to provide evidence of any such statements. Many electors have also reported to me that he has visited them at home to assert that I am a racist – again without any evidence. His actions of seeking to influence the result of the General Election by making false allegations of my character may amount to a criminal offence under electoral law and my solicitors have written to the Director of Public Prosecutions to ask for an investigation. I am sorry that the people of High Peak have had these lies inflicted upon them and I would like to thank all those people who have informed me of Mr Largan’s tactics on their doorsteps and offered to give evidence and to support me.
I find this an abhorrent way to go about campaigning to represent the people this area that I love so much. I will continue to run a positive campaign on my record of fighting for High Peak as I did for decades before I stood for Parliament.
If anyone would like their own experience of the Conservatives’ defamatory statements to them to be included in the evidence to the DPP, please email me at
Thank you again for all the support across High Peak. Ruth

Ruth George, Labour's Champion for High Peak

“There has never been such a huge difference between the political parties and the future they offer. I want people in High Peak to know that there is a better alternative than a government which is about to close nearly 20 hospitals, cut £3 billion from our schools, plunge over 4 million working families into poverty through their harsh cuts to Universal Credit and refuses to rule out cuts to pension increases or higher tax and national insurance. In contrast, I will promote Labour’s message of long-term investment in public services, fairness for working people, and decent support for pensioners and those who cannot work.”
