Good to speak to people in Old Glossop yesterday. Lots of concern about Boris Johnson’s Brexit deal from people who work across borders and know all the problems with paperwork and tariffs. They know how that will damage businesses large and small when it’s extended to the 27 EU countries and over 40 other countries we have free trade agreements with because we are part of the EU. Former Conservative voters tell me they’re voting for me because Labour’s sensible policy on Brexit will see a common sense deal and the people able to vote on it. That’s much better for businesses than the cliff edge we face again at the end of next year when Boris Johnson is again prepared to take us out of the EU, deal or no deal.

Ruth George, Labour's Champion for High Peak

“There has never been such a huge difference between the political parties and the future they offer. I want people in High Peak to know that there is a better alternative than a government which is about to close nearly 20 hospitals, cut £3 billion from our schools, plunge over 4 million working families into poverty through their harsh cuts to Universal Credit and refuses to rule out cuts to pension increases or higher tax and national insurance. In contrast, I will promote Labour’s message of long-term investment in public services, fairness for working people, and decent support for pensioners and those who cannot work.”
