General Election 2019

Today I supported a General Election to end this awful Conservative government.

I fought for High Peak for many years before I was an MP, and as your MP I’ve worked as hard as I can to support local people and local services.

I’m standing on my record of fighting for our health service, our police, for our transport, our environment, our schools and nurseries, and road safety.

Boris Johnson has continued austerity. His huge tax cuts for the richest 10% and his hard Brexit will mean austerity for years to come.

I’m standing as a local, committed and hard-working MP with costed, practical policies to invest again in our public services and our infrastructure, to tackle poverty and meet our environmental targets.

That’s the choice in this election and I look forward to working with you to help change this government and bring us all some hope for the future.

Ruth George for High Peak

Ruth George, Labour's Champion for High Peak

“There has never been such a huge difference between the political parties and the future they offer. I want people in High Peak to know that there is a better alternative than a government which is about to close nearly 20 hospitals, cut £3 billion from our schools, plunge over 4 million working families into poverty through their harsh cuts to Universal Credit and refuses to rule out cuts to pension increases or higher tax and national insurance. In contrast, I will promote Labour’s message of long-term investment in public services, fairness for working people, and decent support for pensioners and those who cannot work.”
